ABSTRACT

Aromatherapy is defined as use for their therapeutic effects of essential oils which are extracted from herbal sources. Since the existence of human beings entered into the search for health and tested various treatments for health. Herbal essential oils are used in solving health problems and to improve the quality of life.

Use of aromatherapy in nursing care begins with Florence Nightingale. Which has a long history of aromatherapy in nursing care; nurses is one of the methods they can be used to improve patient care and to strengthen the nursing. Adopting a holistic approach to patient care nurses, in order to achieve this, it is necessary to have adequate knowledge and skills. For these reasons, information on aromatherapy and ıts usage areas should be included in nursing curriculums. İn addition, nurses should be updated on these of informations through in-service trainings, conferences and symposia.

This article is intended to explain the benefits of aromatherapine, its mechanism of action and its importance for nursing.
