ABSTRACT
Aim:
To determine the smoking habit of university students and to evaluate indoor smooking restriction law on smoking habit of these students.
Materials and Methods:
A survey research was performed to evaluate the students’ thoughts on indoor smoking restriction.(n:381)
Results:
After the decleration of indoor smoking restriction law a relation was found between gender and smoking starting age, first smoking time at morning, smoking reasons, daily smoked cigarette number, smoking initiation age . Additionally, a relation between daily smoked cigarette number and economical status was observed.No relation was found between smoking initiation age and economical status; subjects who thought to quit smoking and factors effecting this thought; smoking cessation desicion folllowing the restriction law and daily smoked cigarette number. Similarly, no relation was found between gender and daily smoked cigarette number after the restriction law; gender and subjects who did not find smoking cessation alerts to be discomfortable.
Conclusion:
Among university students it has been found that females smoke, initiate smoking at younger a age more than males as well as have higher number of daily smoked cigarette number. Most of the females had no reason for smoking and found cigarette smoking to decrease psyciological stress while males just found cigarette smoking to decrease psyciological stress.Females mostly initiate smoking as a result of social interaction with friends while males mostly initiate smoking because of psyciological stress. Finally, the findings of the present survey has showed that indoor smooking restriction law did not effect smoking habit among university students, on the contrary smoking habit has increased after this law.
